What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy (also called Radial Shockwave Therapy or Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy) is a non-invasive treatment that delivers acoustic pressure waves into injured tissue.

These sound waves stimulate your body's natural healing response by:

  • Increasing circulation
  • Stimulating new blood vessel formation
  • Breaking down scar tissue and calcifications
  • Encouraging collagen production
  • Improving tissue repair
  • Reducing chronic inflammation
  • Decreasing pain signals

Unlike injections or surgery, there are no incisions, medications, or extended downtime.

Conditions Shockwave Therapy Can Help Treat

  • Plantar Fasciitis

  • Achilles Tendonitis

Why Choose Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy stimulates a controlled healing response, helping your body repair damaged tissue more efficiently.

Many patients experience:

  • Reduced pain
  • Improved mobility
  • Faster recovery
  • Better flexibility
  • Increased circulation
  • Improved tissue healing
  • Less stiffness
  • Better overall function

FAQs

Learn more about shockwave therapy and contact us to schedule your consultation today!

  • Does Shockwave hurt?

To get the most benefit from shockwave therapy, we look for a pain/discomfort rating of 3-4 out of 10.

  • What should I wear if I have a shockwave appointment?

Shockwave is performed on the skin, so  wear anything comfortable that would allow us to reach the skin of the area we want to work on. We also have towels and blankets for more coverage.

  • Are there any contraindications to shockwave?

The main things we would avoid using shockwave therapy on are:  around the abdomen in a pregnant woman, over a pacemaker, sensitive blood vessels around the neck and face, and any area that has recently received a cortisone shot. We typically will wait 30 days post cortisone injections before starting shockwave therapy.

  • Is there an age requirement?

No, Shockwave can be done at all ages, specifically 10 years old and above.

  • Is the shockwave loud?

Once the therapy starts, the machine sounds like a hairdryer blowing air and a tapping sound. Feel free to bring noise cancelling headphones, earbuds, or earplugs if you are sensitive to noise!
